Meet Sam, Our Osteopath in Brentwood: Back, Neck and Headaches From the Neck
Not everything we do at 65Beauty is about aesthetics. In this article you will meet Samantha, known to most people as Sam, our osteopath, and learn what she treats, the other therapies she offers and what to expect from your first session with her at 39 Kings Road, Brentwood.
This video uses an AI-generated version of Samantha's voice and likeness, made with her consent. The clinic footage is real and filmed with consent.
Who is Sam?
Sam is a qualified osteopath. She qualified in 2019 and, as she says in the video, she has been an osteopath for around seven years. Osteopath is a protected title in the UK, which means only people who have completed recognised training and are registered with the profession's regulator, the General Osteopathic Council, can use it.
Osteopathy is a separate health profession with its own training and standards, and her sessions sit alongside the work of our nurse-led aesthetics team at 65Beauty, a CQC-registered clinic.
What Sam treats
In her own words, Sam treats "all sorts of aches and pains". In particular, she sees people with:
Back problems, such as stiffness or discomfort in the lower or upper back.
Neck problems, including tension and reduced movement.
Headaches that start in the neck, sometimes described as headaches linked to neck tension or posture.
Osteopaths use hands-on techniques, such as soft tissue work, stretching and joint mobilisation, alongside advice on movement and posture. The exact approach depends on what Sam finds when she assesses you. Results vary, and osteopathy is not right for every problem. If something needs investigating elsewhere, Sam will tell you and advise you to see your GP or another appropriate professional.
Sports massage, lymphatic drainage and taping
As well as osteopathic treatment, Sam offers three related therapies:
Sports massage. A firmer, targeted massage that focuses on muscles that feel tight or overworked, often used by people who train regularly or have physically demanding jobs.
Lymphatic drainage. A gentle, rhythmic massage technique that works with the lymphatic system, the network that helps move fluid around the body.
Taping for injuries. Applying specialist tape to support an area while it recovers, or to help you stay comfortable during activity.
Sam will talk you through which option, if any, suits your situation.
What happens at your first session
Sam is clear that every session starts with a proper case history, "so we know exactly what's going on". At your first appointment she will ask about:
the problem that has brought you in, when it started and what makes it better or worse
your general health, medical history and any medication you take
your work, activity levels and daily routine
She will then carry out a physical assessment, which usually includes looking at how you move. If treatment is appropriate, she will explain what she recommends before starting, and you can ask questions at any point. If osteopathy is not the right fit, she will say so.
After your session
Some people feel a little stiff or tender for a day or two after hands-on treatment. This is common and usually settles on its own. Sam will talk you through aftercare and may suggest simple exercises or changes to your routine. If anything worries you after a session, contact the clinic.
Common questions
Do I need a GP referral to see an osteopath?
Many people book osteopathy directly. If you are unsure whether it is suitable for your symptoms, Sam can discuss this with you, and she will recommend seeing your GP if needed.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing is a good idea. Sam will explain at your appointment if she needs to see or access a particular area, and you can ask about anything you are unsure of.
Can osteopathy help my headaches?
Sam treats headaches that start in the neck. Not all headaches have this cause, so she will take a full history first and advise you honestly.
