Shape, Definition or Volume? Planning Your Lip Filler Consultation in Brentwood
Lip filler is a personal decision, and the most useful place to start is a clear conversation about what you actually want. In this article we explain how to think about your goals, whether that is shape, definition or volume, and what a lip filler consultation at our Brentwood clinic covers before any treatment decision is made.
The video uses archive treatment footage. It is not a before-and-after comparison or a promise of a particular outcome.
It starts with you, not the syringe
At 65Beauty, a nurse-led, CQC-registered clinic at 39 Kings Road, Brentwood, lip filler always begins with you rather than with a product or a set look. People come to us with very different ideas. Some would like to explore a little more definition along the lip border. Others are curious about shape and balance between the upper and lower lip. Some are thinking about volume.
You do not need to arrive knowing the right words. Bringing photographs of your own lips, a list of questions, or simply a description of what bothers you is enough. Our team will help you put your goals into context and talk honestly about what may and may not be realistic for you.
Shape, definition or volume: what the terms mean
These three words come up in almost every lip filler conversation, so it helps to understand them before your appointment:
Shape usually refers to the overall outline and proportion of the lips, including how the upper and lower lip relate to each other.
Definition tends to mean the crispness of the lip border and the natural contours, such as the area just above the centre of the upper lip.
Volume describes fullness. A small change can look quite different on different faces, which is why a tailored plan matters.
Lip filler is a type of dermal filler, typically made with hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the skin. Your practitioner will explain how it works, how it is placed and how it is expected to change over time.
What a lip filler consultation covers
A consultation is your chance to ask what is suitable, how treatment works and what to expect afterwards. At 65Beauty we will talk through:
Your goals, in your own words.
Suitability, including your medical history, any medicines you take and anything that may mean treatment is not right for you at this time.
Potential risks, including common short-lived effects such as redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising, as well as less common complications.
Alternatives, which can include choosing a different approach or choosing not to have treatment at all.
Aftercare, so you know what the first days may look like and who to contact if you have any concerns.
Lip filler is not right for everyone, and treatment is for adults aged 18 and over. Your practitioner will check suitability at a consultation, and you are welcome to take time to think before deciding.
After your treatment
If you and your practitioner agree that treatment is suitable and you decide to go ahead, you will be given aftercare guidance specific to you. It is common for lips to feel swollen or tender for a short time, and bruising can occur. Many practitioners suggest avoiding strenuous exercise, saunas and other sources of intense heat for around 24 to 48 hours, but your practitioner will talk you through the aftercare that applies to you.
Results vary from person to person, and the way filler settles can take a little time. Follow-up arrangements will be explained at your appointment.
Common questions
Do I need to know exactly what I want before booking?
No. Many people come to a consultation with a general idea and leave with a much clearer understanding of their options. Exploring is the point of the conversation.
Will I be treated on the same day?
That depends on your consultation, your suitability and whether you feel ready. There is no pressure to proceed, and you can take time to decide.
Is the footage in the video a result?
No. The video shows archive treatment footage. It is not a before-and-after comparison and does not show a healed result.
Can I ask about risks and alternatives?
Yes, and we encourage it. Understanding risks, alternatives and aftercare is part of making an informed decision.
